Final Edits

Contact sheet for the shoot
This is not the whole shoot, the original amount of photos taken was about 200 for each background so I edited them down to round  about 70-100 for each.

 White Background
The theme I wanted for this shoot was contrasting to the eras original “unhealthy” and “Unsettling” feel, my photos will be more upbeat with happier poses from the subject. However the subjects poses aren’t often planned they are all genuine feelings and this gives more of a welcoming vibe than the surreal from the originals.

This outfit was one of the easier ones to shoot, this is because it was the one I had planned the most mainly because it is very much alike another from the era worn by a famous actor, Will Smith, shot by...
It was also significantly easier because the clothes contested well with the background and even though they are darker the subjects poses are not. This shows how the fashion has been manipulated by the modern society even though it has reoccurred.

Editing.
The editing of these was also not too difficult as the contrast was already successful in itself however when adjusting the exposure of these compositions the darker tones of the shirt made it difficult to keep balanced so I also decreased the dark levels and increased the contrast to even it out.
Due to the positive feel and bright background these are some of my favourite outcomes from this part of the shoot!
Outfit 2
These photos where some of the hardest to edit as I had the model too close to the backdrop so some shots had a shadow in the background.
These also followed the same pattern to edit as I increased the exposure some of the light on the model grew too bright for it to be a balanced and successful composition so I selected the areas in which needed it most and balanced it as best I could. After this I added more contrast to really increase the blue in the denim to help the image stand out but also because denim was a real staple in the era and this reflects in all the fashion photography produced from the time.

Outfit 3

Due to the jacket these where the hardest and most successful shots to come out of this half of the shoot. This is because the darker colours in the jacket really contrast well with the background but during editing they became too dark when trying to increase it more, this is when I learnt how to select only the subject and separate them from the backdrop to edit that instead of both and escape having to balance them at the same time. I also played with the colour balance of the image to really help the colours of the jacket and the blue of the denim stand out.
I wanted the colours to stand out as well as the poses of the model to really contrast with the original colours of the era, often the shoots where in black and white to be darker and more “grunge” described as “heroin chic” compared to mine which are bright and positive. To show reoccurring fashion.

Orange Background
To keep within the theme of reoccurring fashion I decided to add a new coloured background unlikely to be used, orange stood out to me because of how much it could contrast with the denim in which is staple for the era.

Outfit 1
Compared to the white background this outfit was much more difficult to edit because the backdrop is now darker and this means the contrast wont be as easy to balance, however with help from the contrast levels I could balance it as much I could.
however these are much less successful than the white because the light is not balanced in the background.
The colour of the jean contrasts very well with the orange and this makes the photos much more pleasing to the eye, they are complimentary colours.

Outfit 2
This outfit for the orange background was much easier to edit, unlike with the white background, the colours of the coat contrasted very well with the backdrop and the exposure was well balanced for both.
I chose this first one to be a final because the pose was very much alike the "herion chic" poses from the inspired era however unfortunately the model was stood too close to the backdrop and it created shadows in the background of the composition when the flash went off.

for the second final I chose this composition because of the contrasts, pose but also the fact that the background light is balanced more successfully however it is overexposed to points and also as parts of negative space blur out the main focal point.

Outtakes
Out of all the chosen photos these two where still successful however they weren't enough to be finals, I still wanted to include them as they show the process in which I took to choose my finals.

This composition may be well balanced, the light and contrast levels work well and the photo is well in focus and the background is perfectly lit so it looks as if its not there. However the pose does not fit how I wanted the finals to overall look.

This photo didn't come up as a final mainly because of how uneven the lighting is and that there isn't as much darker contrasts on the model Unlike the one above the pose I feel fits the contrasting vibe to the "heroin chic" of the 90s.
